As a Tarot reader, I offer guidance to people experiencing challenges in their relationships, work and family life or whose path takes them toward new love or spiritual growth. Tarot Readings The Tarot is an oracle grounded in symbolism stretching back to ancient Egypt, imagined anew in the Renaissance and formalized in Victorian times to variations on the 78 cards familiar to us today. A Tarot reading is an opportunity to interact with these symbols and through them to interact with our deepest Self. My working assumption is that everyone coming to a reading does so with all the tools they need to engage with the challenges and opportunities that life presents. Our task in a reading is to re-engage with the spirit; the most enduring part of ourselves which sometimes feels obscured by the complications of everyday life. A Tarot reading is an opportunity to set aside a time and place dedicated to the Work of our souls. By making time for the sacred we may be gifted with new insights and be granted new strength for the journey. About Me My first memory of being drawn to Magick was when I was seven years old. I did know quite what Magick was or even if it was real. But I knew even then it would be the work of a lifetime. My first deck was the Tarot of the Witches, given to me as a present after I fell head-over-heels for Jane Seymour as Solitaire in To Live and Let Die. I was twelve years old! I have traveled some distance since then and Magick remains the source of mystery and wonder to me that it ever was. In the years since I first began to read Tarot I have learned to access and accept my intuitions; learned not to be afraid to follow the myths where they may lead. Someday when we all meet at the source of all myths, we will look back on this time and marvel at the joy we had finding our way home. Qualifications In matters of the spirit, experience is the best teacher. The calling of my spirit guided me in my formal education as well as leading me to the Tarot. I am trained as a cultural anthropologist specializing in interactive storytelling, sacred space and structural analysis of myth. My undergraduate degree was a combined Honours in Anthropology/Religion, my Master's thesis was titled "Narrative Analysis in Myths of Healing" and my doctoral research took me to England where I was a consultant to the UK Department of the Environment. For several years I taught courses in nonverbal communication and cultural ecology to students at Wilfrid Laurier University. I have also taught courses in Mayan and Inca archaeology at the University of Toronto. Over twenty years I have had the great privilege of working with and learning from spiritual practitioners from many traditions. My graduate supervisor for my Master's research was ordained as a monk in a Tibetan Buddhist lineage. In fact, I had four monks on my defense committee! I have worked with Wiccans, hereditary witches, druids, a member of the Mohawk medicine society, followers of Asatru, ceremonial magicians and more than a few techno-pagans. My personal work is centred on elements of Western Hermetic tradition with a form of Santeria. Tarot Decks I use a variety of Tarot decks; most often the Thoth Tarot and the Old English Tarot. The Thoth deck offers great precision while the Old English deck is both traditional and accessible at the same time. Whatever deck you prefer, it is important to work with imagery that allows you to access your insight and your imagination. The dream-like imagery of the Haindl Tarot and the Vision Tarot appeal to many seekers after truth and are deservedly popular. I have also found the playful imagery of the Housewives Tarot can lead to surprising, unexpected insights. It is important to remember that in Renaissance times the courtly images which can seem fanciful or remote to a modern eye were absolutely familiar and contemporary to the people who created them. For this reason, I keep an open mind and receptive heart for symbols drawn from popular culture. I access the Tarot of the Witches, the Vampire Tarot, the Mage Tarot and the stunning Vertigo Tarot for questions calling for specific explorations of the spirit. RATES Please contact me by email.
